Therapy for Depression

Do you feel sad more often than not these days? Are there days where you have to force yourself to get out of bed and face the day, or maybe days where you don’t get out of bed at all? You’ve tried to figure out what is making you feel so sad, but can’t really identify a specific cause?  But there are still days where you say to yourself, “what’s the point?”.

Here are some other examples of negative thoughts/behaviors you may be experiencing:

  • I’m worthless and can’t do anything about it.
  • Feeling guilty for just wanting to eat, sleep and be alone.
  • I hate who I am these days.
  • Inability to stop crying, which makes you want to stay away from others.
  • I feel gut wrenching pain, but no one understands.
  • My life and the world around me are dark. I hate it, but I can’t change it.

If you have had any variation of these thoughts and don’t feel like your usual self, chances are you may be suffering from depression.

Depression can sometimes occur out of what we feel like is nowhere, and sometimes there is an identifiable cause. Maybe you have experienced a recent loss, a bad break up, or haven’t dealt with something from your past. Some may even feel guilty for experiencing sad feelings as what they are dealing with isn’t really “that bad” compared to all the other problems going on in the world. When not properly dealt with, depression can cause issues within relationships, workplace issues, and your self-esteem to name a few.

At this point you are just ready to get back into things that you used to enjoy and feeling happy.

Overcoming depression is possible, but it takes work. Participating in therapy is a step in the right direction! During our time together we will explore possible causes of your depression, as well as ways to cope with your feelings and reduce/eliminate your symptoms. We will work on setting goals, improving self-care, setting boundaries, and changing the way we look at certain situations.

Know that you are not alone and there are people who can help. Many of my clients find relief in realizing that their struggle does not own them and that there are many options available to once again have hope for their lives.
