Have you been wondering if online counseling/teletherapy could be a good fit for you?
Feel free to ask yourself the following questions to help you determine if teletherapy could be beneficial for you:
Do you need support for an illness or disorder, but can’t make it to an in-person appointment?
Are you a busy stay-at-home or working parent, and don’t have time to schedule or keep therapy appointments?
Do you lack the time or resources to use public transportation, are you physically disabled, or do you live in a remote/rural area where there are limited providers?
Teletherapy is a relatively new option for people who would like to seek mental health services online. In general, people may also refer to teletherapy as telemental health, online counseling, or technology assisted counseling.
Online therapy sessions are similar to Facetime or Skype, but are conducted on a HIPPA compliant/secure platform. Due to modern technology, most people in the U.S. has or has access to a computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet capable of video chat.
Teletherapy is becoming more popular because of flexibility and convenience. As a result, you can have sessions wherever you feel comfortable and safe.
Many people find they are more comfortable talking with their therapist online, than perhaps they would have in person. Research has proven that online therapy can be just as effective as in person therapy, though it isn’t for everyone. Currently, I provide teletherapy to Kentucky and Indiana residents.
